Empieza un nuevo día a la misma hora que los anteriores....si ya lo se...que esto no es vida...pero que le vamos a hacer...así son las cosas y así os las contamos, porque el que algo quiere, algo le cuesta.....y como nosotras queríamos aprovechar todo el tiempo posible en este Parque Nacional, lo mejor era estar allí desde la hora que abrían, hasta la hora que cerraran. Por si ha quedado algún tipo de duda....el despertador sonó a las 5.30....
Tras un desayuno cuantioso (de estos no he hecho foto....¿cómo puede ser?????), y hacer algunas fotos a las zonas comunes de la hacienda, nos dirigimos al Yunque National Forest.
La idea es ir haciendo paradas, hasta que decidamos que "Hiking" hacer... La primera de ellas es el caso Cascadas Cocoa:
Tras las fotos de rigor, seguimos a la Torre Yokau a la que llegamos superponto, por recomendación de la guía, ya que sino después coincidiríamos con la gente de las excursiones....pero fuimos tan pronto que estaba cerrada, así que continuamos a la siguiente parada.
La Torre fue construida, como torre de observación, en 1962 por el Servicio Forestal a imagen y semejanza de la Torre Mt. Britton, que se construyó en el año 1935 por el Cuerpo Civil de Conservación.
Un poco más adelante teníamos el inicio de uno de dos caminos posibles: Mina Trail que llevaba hasta las Cascadas Mina, y se podía volver por nuestros pasos o continuar hasta el siguiente sendero el Big Tree....en teoría solo un poco más largo.....en la practica ...mucho más largo y con la consecuente vuelta por la carretera para llegar al sitio donde habíamos aparcado el coche (os cuento este rollo, porque la final hicimos los dos senderos....sin agua....porque como decían que el camino era corto....pues nosotras inocentes vamos y nos lo creemos....
El sendero era cómodo y la flora bonita...
y cuando llegamos a la cascada estaba llena de gente, así que esperamos un poquito antes de hacer nuestras fotillos
Después de hacer el tonto un rato, decidimos que es hora de decidir que hacer si seguir por el sendero Big Tree o volver sobre nuestros pasos...así que decidimos seguir hacia delante....porque según el letrero informativo (que ya os adelanto es MENTIRA), solo eran unos 10 minutos más....
Y vamos haciendo fotitos a las distintas pozas que encontramos, y una 100 a un nido de pájaro que encontramos.....con dos huevos!!!!
Y nos tocó volver por la carretera....que aunque no era muy divertido, los colores de los helechos, con el azul del cielo valieron la pena....eso sí, cuando llegamos al coche yo no se si tenía más sed que hambre o más hambre que sed....así que decidimos irnos a la siguiente parada y comer por allí la comida....
Solo que como no encontramos donde comer.....lo mejor es quedarse en el mismo coche...jejeje
y tras un pequeño snack....nos vamos a hacer el trekking de la Torre Mt. Britton
Ni que decir el calor sofocante que hacía, justo a las 2 y pico de la tarde, pero como la idea era aprovechar al máximo, no podíamos quedarnos a descansar un rato, porque cerraban a las 6.30...
Y teniendo en cuenta que eran ya cerca de las 4, y que aún nos quedaba ver un par de paradas y el Centro de Visitantes, decidimos volver al coche. Nuevamente aquí surgen dos opciones: desandar el camino recorrido, o ir por la carretera de servicio, actualmente cortada, para evitar el tráfico al telescopio que está en las proximidades.
Nos decidimos por la segunda opción, porque pasear por zonas desconocidas tiene más aliciente que por alguna en la que ya hemos pasado......como puede ser el encontrar esta señal.....Kim estuvo dudando un buen rato si ir hacia la zona de Parking o por el camino equivocado...
Tras un buen rato, haciendo fotos, echándonos unas buenas risas con las señales, volvimos al coche, para volver sobre nuestros pasos. Parada en Baño Grande y después en Baño Oro ( del que no hay foto, porque ni valía la pena)
y volvimos a la primera torre para poder subir y ver las vistas
Cuando fuimos a entrar al centro de visitantes, nos dicen que hay que pagar entrada....realmente no escuché el importe, pero nos quedamos tan indignadas que se tuviera que pagar entrada, que decidimos pasar de largo...
Como aún era pronto para volver a casa, y la energía gasta en el parque era bastante, decidimos reponerla haciendo una parada en Aromas Coffee and Crepps ....es lo malo que tiene la Lonely...que lees y se te apetece....jajaja
Con energías recargadas, y ya entrada la noche, porque el sitio nos encantó, solo quedaba volver a casa, ducha, recoger maletas, hacer cena y a dormir mi estrella.
DAY 7: IN SEARCH FOR THE RIGHT WAY
The El Yunque National Forest opens at 07:30 hrs and Cris wants to be there so we are up at the wonderful time of……05:30 hrs so we can have breakfast, make a lunch, and drive the 40 minutes to the rain forest.
Day starts with the exciting news that my booties have arrived the dive shop on Vieques!!! Yes!! They have been found and have arrived and I will be able to use them tomorrow for the diving.
More narrow, curvy roads to travel. Get to the forest and we are off to explore. First place we go to is the visitor centre but it is closed so we continue on into the forest. Next place we come to is an observation tower….also closed and locked but with no indication as to when it will open.
We drive on and go to and find the viewing area for the La Coca Falls.
The falls are low as the water is down but they are still beautiful. The forest is wonderful. We decide to do a small hike to the La Mina Falls, where people can take a dip in the pool below the falls. We get there after a bit and find some people in the pool but not many. Cris immediately goes to work.
Watching people swimming in the pool coupled with the warm hike in, we decide that maybe we too should take a dive into the pool.
Tre trail goes from one parking area to another so Cris wants to continue and then take the road back to the vehicle so onward we hike. We spy the possibility of natural selection at work (very stupid people off trail slipping on the slick rocks just above the falls), some more beautiful forest, and a hummingbird’s nest with 2 eggs in it.
Get to the other parking lot, find it busy, as was the trail on the way out. Cris gets information form the local guy about trails to hike on and how to get the Mt. Britton tower. We then start down the road to the vehicle….down we go…..down we go…..pass some road construction and down we go…..and down we go. I hear “How much further? What km did we park the car at?” Hhhmmm, steep road down and a few km of it….could that be why all the signs say “Return on the trail that you took to get here??” No worries. At least it is all downhill. We gather the car and drive up to the Mt. Britton Tower trailhead, where we have a quick lunch and then get ready to hike on to the tower.
Nice hike through the forest but warm and humid. Very steep trail up the mountain that has hoping that the view is worth it.
So, what do you think of the view?
Not too shabby. Happy that the haze has lifted a bit.
So after a bit of enjoying the view and reviewing our energy level and schedule, we decide to hike back to the vehicle. So, there is the trail and also a service road. We decide to take the service road back down as we have already seen the trail. The road is very steep down but we manage. We manage until we get to an intersection that has us confused.
We are now unsure of the path…….the right way would appear to be in one direction……but following the wrong way is always much more fun and exciting and full of adventure. So, what to do? What to do? Well, what would you do? We, of course, choose correctly and…..
Decided on the path to the wrong way….and we found it!!! And it has made all the difference.
Once back at the car, we travel to visit the soaking pools that were built by the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) during the 1930’s. They are nice but not overly exciting, especially the Baño de Oro as this one is in bad repair.
We stop at the tower again and this time it is open so we venture in and up for the view. Very nice view from here too.
We are starting to fade in energy and Cris gets her sweet tooth going and also wants to take a coffee so she finds a place nearby in the guide that has sweet crepes and coffee. Plug it into the GPS and off we are to discover an amazing place!!! Wonderful! Perfect if I am going to break the diet….and I did….and it was worth it. We start thinking about what to do while in San Juan after our next adventures on Vieques. There is the 2nd oldest lighthouse in Puerto Rico in Fajardo and the only way to see it is by tour through a mangrove on a nature preserve. We decide on it and book the tickets and reserve a car for that day as well as we do not have a car while in Old San Juan.
Drive back to the hacienda. Thankful for the coffee and sugar to give my energy. Prepare the fish to poach on the grill and a salad for dinner. Pack up some and off to bed as we have to get up early to drive to the ferry in Fajardo and return the car.

Te acabo de enviar como puedes traducir la parte de Kim, cuando entras en la entrada que quieres leer, vas al "gadget" del traductor de google (que está encima del contador de visitas) y seleccionas "español"....jejeje (espero que consigas leer su parte porque es muy divertida)
